* Positive response to off-peak monthly travel pass: Josephine Teo
Channel NewsAsia, 25 Aug 2015

The response to the new off-peak monthly travel pass has been good, said Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport Josephine Teo on Tuesday (Aug 25).

About 10,000 commuters bought the pass last month, said Mrs Teo, who was speaking on the Channel 8 news programme Hello Singapore. The pass, which costs S$80 for adults, was launched on Jun 28. It offers unlimited travel on rail services and basic bus services during off-peak hours.

When asked how the Government is ensuring the long-term affordability of public transport, Mrs Teo said it is an issue of grave importance and that vulnerable groups should have more support.

About 1.6 million people, mainly the low-income, disabled, polytechnic students and national servicemen, currently enjoy public transport subsidies, said Mrs Teo. She added that 13 million public transport vouchers have been given out since 2011.
