The Nee Soon GRC Grassroots Organisations launched the Nee Soon Football and Study Programme on Sunday (Jan 25).
The initiative will provide football training for youths between seven and 16 years old. The Nee Soon GRC Grassroots Organisations will sponsor 80 students under the MOE Financial Assistance Scheme. The students, who either live or study in Nee Soon GRC, will also attend a study mentoring programme alongside football training.
Volunteers will run the study programme every Saturday afternoon while weekly football training will be conducted by the F-17 Academy, helmed by Singapore football hero Fandi Ahmad.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law who is also Nee Soon GRC MP, Mr K Shanmugam said: "I asked Fandi if we can work together to help children from less privileged backgrounds in Nee Soon. He agreed.Volunteers will run the study programme every Saturday afternoon while weekly football training will be conducted by the F-17 Academy, helmed by Singapore football hero Fandi Ahmad.
"The result is this programme. It is a huge collective effort of many stakeholders in Nee Soon; the schools, parents and children, the soccer team, volunteer tutors and the grassroots leaders."
