Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said Community Clubs are an important part of every neighbourhood.
They also act as centres for the community.
Mr Lee was speaking at the launch on Saturday of the revamped Geylang West Community Club which boasts an extended block of about 700 square metres.
It also has a senior-friendly gym, which was introduced after consultation with Geylang West residents, many of whom are seniors.
Seniors only need to pay S$5 monthly to use the gym.
The rest of the $30 monthly gym fee is subsidised by the community club management committee.
The revamped CC includes an outdoor stage where movie nights will be organised to bring residents together.
Mr Lee added that CCs help to build the kampung spirit and are an important part of community building.
He said: "During the haze, we had to organise the distribution of the masks. We did it from the CC. We had to advise people what we can do to protect ourselves from the haze, we have the CC. And if you need an air-con room to rest and take shelter from the haze because it was too bad, the CC can be open and you can come here and take a rest, or you can come here to study and have a respite."
